My branding design process

Creating visual branding is my speciality and I love to work with my clients as their creative partner. That way I come up with a strong, timeless and thoughtful brand. I treat every client as an individual, to make sure we are on the same page and your branding represents perfectly your business and its values. At the end of the day YOU are the one who knows your business and market best. We will establish a clear communication together, then I will work my magic to come up with the perfect visual. My goal: create a brand that will be one long lasting investment for your business.

Communicating with you the behind-the-scenes of the creative process offers a good look into how much work goes into a visual identity creation. Below is a step by step walkthrough showing the process of working with me on a full branding design project for your business.

I offer 3 branding packages – please email me at if you want to receive a copy of my brochure (Prices start at $1 190). In this post, I’ll present the process with Package Two which includes:

  • 1 hour 1:1 strategy session
  • 2 uniquely designed logo concepts
  • Choice of 1 final logo (up to 2 revisions)
  • Logo submark
  • Multiple exports for print and web
  • Brand style guide with fonts, colour palette and imagery mood board
  • Your choice of two collateral item designs (2 revisions each): Business card (double sided – up to 5 names), Pattern or illustration in your brand style, HTML email signature, Facebook cover and/or Etsy cover, Tee-shirt or tote bag design

Step 1: Meeting + Questionnaire

You contact me and you are interested in working with me. If you are based in Perth, we organise a face-to-face strategy session. If you are overseas, we can set-up a phone call. It’s very important to have this direct communication (other than email) because it will help me to know you and your business better. During our meeting we will talk about your business, I’ll explain you the process of working with me and I will help you to choose the package that suits your business needs the best.

Once the meeting is finished, I’ll follow-up with an email including:

  • The quote and my T&C’s to sign-up
  • The invoice for a 50% deposit before starting the work.

Once this is done, you are booked and I’ll send you a questionnaire that will be used as the “creative brief”: it will help me to gather information about your company background, audience, competition, message & strategy, design and inspiration that you might have in mind.

Step 2: Branding concepts design

Now it’s time for me to create: at this point, I need a few days to do some research, understand the brief, your business, your market and the design strategy that goes into it. It’s my time where I process everything and I come up with creative ideas. For the concepts to grow, I need a few business days to put the first presentation together with the 2+ logo concept propositions. Once it’s ready, I send you the first presentation and we can organise a phone call so I can explain you everything.

In this PDF presentation you will find:

  •  A resume of the brief
  • An highlight of the important keywords that will define your brand visual style
  • An inspiration “moodboard”: this allows us to define the new general look and feel of your brand through image research (branding inspirations, textures, colours, pictures and illustrations style).
  • Logo design option 1: in black and white and in colour variation + in-situ in different marketing materials
  • Logo design option 2: in black and white and in colour variation + in-situ in different marketing materials

Example with DRIVE360 (just a few pages of the presentation):

This is how my research file looks like before I create a clean presentation like above (my clients don’t see this step but I always find it fun to see how the logo concepts evolve!):

Once you have chosen the logo design you want, we finalise the logo and branding. Some clients are happy with the first presentation of logo propositions and don’t want any changes. Sometimes they want to rework the colours, fonts or elements into it. We work together on up to 2+ revisions to finalise the logo.

In this case, Drive360 wanted to rework on the colours of the logo option 2. After a couple of revisions, this is the final logo:

Step 3: Branding development

Now that your logo design is finalised, approved and you are 100% happy with it we are able to continue to develop the rest of the branding. I now design the other components of the package: submark, colour palette, stationery and brand guideline. I send you this in another PDF presentation.

What is a brand guideline?

It is a document that helps maintain consistency by demonstrating what a brand looks and feels like. Using one ensures that your brand is consistent, even when you have different people working on marketing, design and sales. These guidelines typically include basic information such as: logo & submark usage, colour palette, typography style, imagery/photography style and layout application (for example on business cards and other marketing materials).

Step 4: Branding export

Once everything is approved, you receive a digital folder with all files included in the package chosen. I send you a detailed email explaining all the files you can find in the folder and how you should use them. It includes exporting the logo in various formats for web and print and it is important that you understand the difference between them.

You receive the logo export and submark and their colour variations in:

  • Vector raw file (= EPS) in RGB (for Web) and CMYK (for Print)
  • Vector raw file in PDF high resolution
  • PNG in low and high resolution for Web (with transparent background, that way you can use your logo on top of pictures)
  • JPG in high resolution for print
  • JPG square for social media posts and profile picture.

You will also receive the finalised brand guideline in PDF and the stationary exported for web and print.

Step 5: Launch

You are now ready to launch your fresh branding! WOOOP

Don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss. I would love to meet in person and see how we could work together to create a beautiful and clever visual brand for your business.
